Credit card whilst in Trust Deed

I recently entered a trust deed and have a credit card that wasn’t included in the deed as I didn’t owe anything on it.

It only has a credit limit of £1000 and my question is am I allowed to use this card for emergencies as long as I pay it in full the next month or am I not allowed to use credit at all?

Welcome to the forum JackieMcR.

In general terms there's no rule that prevents the use of credit while in a trust deed.

It would almost always be a really bad idea though. No provision will be made for repaying any new credit in your "income and expenditure" so any build-up of debt could quickly cause huge issues for you.

Because your expenditure is restricted while you're in a trust deed, covering an emergency one month would likely leave you short once you'd repaid the card the following month. This could easily lead to the card being used again to cover necessities.

If you have an unexpected and important expenses, it's always best to speak with your trustee first. They may be able to assist, perhaps by allowing you to skip a payment and add it onto the end of the trust deed for example. This would be much less risky if it were possible.

No problem JackieMcR.

I've just spotted the typo in my previous reply which should have read "in general terms there's no rule... " (now edited) but hopefully what I was trying to write was clear.
