Hi folks,

I made my last payment of my trust deed around the middle of August. Haven't heard anything from the company yet but I was told I'd take a while to sort out and issue my discharge certificate. I am keen to get my finances back on track and rebuild my credit rating which I am aware will take time. Does anyone have any advice moving forward?

Thanks[:)]

Welcome to Trust-Deed.co.uk Neillyboi26.

Congratulations on reaching the very final stages of your trust deed.

I think the main thing that needs to happen at the moment is your formal discharge from the trust deed. This will typically take a few weeks to happen, but some firms seem to take much longer. If it were me, I'd be calling my trustee to ask when they expect this to happen.

Once discharged you may wish to get hold of your credit file. Experience suggests that there may be some errors on there which you'll want to address. Common issues include creditors registering default notices some time after your trust deed began, or creditors failing to update your record to take account of your discharge. This is a case of contacting each creditor to "encourage" them to get it done.

After that, it's probably a case of making some responsible use of credit without building up any significant credit balances. This is effectively layering some positive use of credit on top of the previous issues. Lenders tend to focus on more recent credit history when making lending decisions.
