Hi all!
Been viewing the forum for past couple of months now looking for advice, a great site, well run with brilliant advice!
Enough brown nosing, time for my question! lol
I was in a trust deed from 06/06 till 06/09 but only recently looked at clearing my credit rating as the 6 years from set up have been completed.
When looking at my credit files I noticed my 2 main creditors were still showing as in default with incorrect default dates, one 3 months after set up of TD, the other 14 months after set up.
Having viewed advice on the forum, I sent out a letter to both companies as well as a copy of my discharge stating that they had 28 days to change default date and to mark account as either settled or partially settled. The 28 days from them recieving the letter has now passed (I sent by recorded delivery to ensure I knew that they had recieved them) and I have had no contact from either company.
What action should I take now? Should I contact the companies directly or should I go straight to the Information Commisioner?
Also anyone who has completed their trust deed and have had their defaulted accounts settled/deleted from their credit file how has it affected your credit rating, if at all.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Hi there, I've recently cleared up my credit file. Contacting Experian got most of my credit file clear. After that I then sent letters to the other creditors. I also called some creditors as well, which gets the process moving quickly. Hope this helps.
Hi m33ddy.
Each of these companies will have a complaints process, processes which will involve someone with the power to take action reviewing the problem.
As you have made a legitimate request, and nothing has happened, I'd suggest making a formal complaint to each firm that continues to report incorrect information to the credit reference agencies.
I'd imagine they'll resolve the problem if you do this, but if they don't the Information Commissioner may be your next port of call.
Thanks TDA and p boy kk for the advice, I have previously complained to both these companies before I sent the letters, both upheld the complaints stating that they required to see my certificate of completion before it could be resolved, even though my trustee stated that this had been already sent to them. I'll give them a call on Monday and chase it up and if they dont comply I'll threaten again to go to the Information Commissioner.
Thanks again
yeah I sent a copy of it with the letters that I posted to them yet still not updated or acknowledgement of them even recieving the letters. I know that it can take upto 6 weeks for the files to be updated depending on when they submit their credit reports but think I should have at least heard a reply from them by now.
I'll be interested to see how you get on as I am going through exactly the same process at the moment and have had no response from the relevant companies either.
onwards and upwards!

Hi m33ddy, The one company I had a problem with was Santander. I spent hours on the Internet & also got advice from this forum to get the phone numbers of the companies. Speaking to someone seemed to help the process. I sent numerous letters recorded delivery which apparently didn't get there. Eventually I contacted the financial ombudsman to get advice. They helped me as well. All in all I spent a fortune on phone calls but got it resolved in the end. One spent closer to a better credit file. Good luck
mini update folks. Phoned one of my creditors a couple of days ago, came away with an excuse that it might not have been recieved by the right department (even though I sent it to the address that they told me I was to send it to!) and got passed from one department to the other. As I had a pdf copy of my discharge letter I asked for an email address so I could send it directly to them and get a quicker response. Was told it could take upto 28 days for any changes to occur, I wont hold my breath but heres hoping lol Ive decided not to chase my other creditor, as the wrong date they set to default to on the account is due its 6 year anniversary in just over 4 weeks so should drop off my credit report anyway, and that would probably happen quicker than chasing them up after it.
If anyone has had any similar dealings with creditors be interested to hear and how much of a difference it made to your report/score. Will keep updated with any further developments.
