Thanks for all your help on this folks. So how do I go about legally handing the car back over to Richard so that it can be included in his trust deed. Do I have to sign the v5 over to him as I am currently the registered keeper to legally prove I have handed it back to the legal owner and that I am no longer responsible for the car. As I fear this will take some time for the dvla to sort out and it might effect him negatively time wise which I do not want to do. As far as I can see this is the only way to keep each of us right on this and for him to legally be able to do anything with the vehicle whatever he may decide. Thanks.

Hi Darren1901.

If you don't want to use the car any longer just hand it back to the owner. You just need to contact DVLA to change the registered keeper of the vehicle. They'd normally handle that pretty quickly.
