Hi,
Looking for some advice if possible!
I have just changed jobs and now require to use a company car whilst on shift. And they will no doubt have to pay for the car insurance.
Do I need to tell my employer about my trust deed for when they go to insure me?

Any advice would be helpful?
Thanks

Hi Helloyellow.

It's reasonable for you to ask your employer how you'll be insured when using their vehicle for work.

Most likely you'll be covered by a company insurance policy that covers all of their employees that use company vehicles. I'd guess in this scenario (I'm not an insurance expert) that the obligation would be on your employer that any policy exclusions don't apply to you.

I doubt you'd get insolvency exclusions in a policy like this though because your employer may not know, at any point in time, whether an employee is insolvent or subject to any other kind of scenario that might be of interest or concern to an insurer.

If it turns out that they'll be sourcing an individual policy for you then it may be more important to disclose your trust deed. This seems like an unlikely scenario though.

Like all of these things, the more questions you ask and the more you're prepared to disclose, the more comfortable and informed you might feel.
