Hello forum!
Has anyone been successful in getting car credit while in a TD? Can't afford to keep spending money on my old heap, and can't get by without a car. Any ideas?

There's firms out there Nemo1, but the rates are unattractive and some may need written consent from your trustee.

How far away is your discharge?

Is there a family member who could assist you regards obtaining a vehicle?

3 years is up, just paying the equity on our mortgage now, which will be roughly 15 months extra..... I'd need to tell the family why I needed help, which I don't want to do. Managed to keep it secret this far! I've heard of Moneybarn but can't afford sky high rates. What a dilemma!

Hi Nemo1

A main dealer may be able to source finance for you if you are honest and up front about your Trust Deed.

Also, you could look a leasing a vehicle instead of buying one.

Your right to be cautious about using a finance company who is charging high rates of interest. I would advise against thing if you can as its a short term solution fix but in the long term you will have a lot of negative equity on the car.

I suppose a final suggestion could be asking your Trustee for a payment break (depending on how much your monthly payment is) to try and save money to buy a new cheap car. We picked up my Mrs a car when she passed 2 years ago which is a 52 plate C3 and it's been great. Cost us ยฃ1,000. this isn't ideal for you but it could see you to the end of the TD and that might open more doors for car finance.

Let us know how you get on.

Hi David.
It was a PCP deal I was looking into, therefore I never actually own the car so if I'm honest and upfront I might be in with a chance? Arnold Clark were a definite no- tried them before! All the other dealers around here are small local businesses so doubt I'd get anywhere with them. It's a catch 22 situation really. I need to work to pay the TD, but need a reliable car to get me there! With no means of getting one.. The repairs for this recent breakdown are going to be in excess of ยฃ300, which I don't have, but may be able to save/borrow. It's an old car dying a slow death and throwing money at it is annoying to say the least. However, might look more into the hire options online? See what's out there.
Oh how I long for 2017!

Hi Nemo

I was in my last month of my trust deed when i got car financing.. It was with a small local used car dealer. The financier is MOTO NOVO. I too was worried that I'd not get financing but the car I had was 11 years old and needing more and more expensive work done on it that was making my ยฃยฃ even worse. So I bit the bullet and decided to try.. Never mentioned the trust deed (i'll be honest there) It went through on the spot. Was a HUGE relief and I now have a much more reliable car and a decent monthly payment that is less than the trust deed payment so good all around. ๐Ÿ™‚ Your mileage may vary . ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you for sharing that again Amerififer.

Sounds like an option for people to explore.

Hi nemo1. Don't know if this would interest you but I got a newish car couple months ago. I am discharged but credit rating poor so didn't want to try and use main lenders.
I used lease2buy in Irvine. They don't credit check as its all about affordability, once all forms were filled and all relevant paperwork needed was sent I had my car within a fortnight. Apr was under 10% so I am not paying over the odds for the car either. They were fantastic through the process aswell. The car will be all mine in 2 and a half years or I can trade it in for a newer model in 15 months #128512;.
Hope this helps as there are companies out there that won't bleed us dry just because of our situation.

I just had a look on their website and they are looking for pretty large deposits and have a typical APR of 21% showing.

Ive been knocked back by Peter Vardy early last year and had offers of finance from a couple of lenders, but at rates similar or more to that advertised on L2Buy.
I don't think I can justify such a high premium right now - even though our 11yr old Peugeot has seen better days.
