when you are made bankrupt what happens to your utilty bills like gas phone electric do you have to have a prepayment meter put in even if you dont owe them money i was also told bt would cut you off and would need to put the phone in someone elses name.

Hi joe1.
I think all of these things are unlikely if you are up to date with payments and keep it like that.
Hopefully some people will share their own experience to reassure you.

thanks tda things have changed i did a ptd back in 1990s and we had to get prepayment meters put in and we was not in debt to them also our telephone was cut off we did not owe bt any money our trustee wrote to them to tell them we was in a trust deed i dont no why he did that was very hard to get advice then alot of people did not know what ptd was wish there was sites like these then

Hi Joe, when i was looking at bankruptcy in the beginning i was like yourself worried about the same thing.
I was told by two different companies (Gas and electricty) unless you owe them money they wont install prepaid meters and you just pay as normal, they do prefer direct debit payments though just to be sure you never get into debt.
As for phone companies i was with virgin and when i asked them how bankrupty would affect my account with them if i took the route i was told directly even though my account was upto date and i owed them no money at all they could not continue to have me as a customer and it is listed in the terms. I asked them if i could just change the phone line over to my partners name and they did it without a problem infact they gave us a better and cheaper deal than i was paying previously. So worked out much better.
