Hi all.
Just a follow up question that I was asked about by a friend considering a PTD. Are there any of the providers that have direct access to a persons bank account details. My thought was that as part of the 6 month review process we supply bank statements etc. I know there are some companies out there who do not require these, hence the question I guess.

Any thoughts or response from our resident experts?

Hi Jimuc,

Generally speaking bank statements would be provided voluntarily,

A trustee might be able to access this information directly if a client chose to be uncooperative.

Hi Jimuc,

As a minimum once per year we will request an income and expenditure form to be completed along with 3 months payslips to review. We don't tend to request bank statements unless we have a reason to. When someone asks if I will look at their bank statements generally experience has taught me to be a little suspicious as they may have transactions going through their bank account which they don't want me to see or think may cause them a problem.

If a client is uncooperative and not paying their payments then we will request bank statements directly from their bank to review their financial position.

Thanks to both.
I have passed on the info to my colleague. He was wondering what the process was before making contact with one of the TD companies.

Hi Jimuc,

Normal process for entering into a plan is to provide x3 months payslips to verify income and then also the bank statements to verify the bills i.e. rent/mortgage/council tax etc. This helps when pulling together and financial statement for the creditors.

Thanks David. He is worried about his local bank being contacted directly due to a neighbour working there. This will help ease his mind on this before he applies for the TD. It's a worrying time before making the application.

Best regards Jimuc

Hi Jimuc,

No, the local bank is not contacted. Like I said it’s simply to see his bills and verify these.

Even if we did request bank statements directly from the bank our requests go to a centralised address and not the local branch so extremely unlikely his neighbour would find out.

Everyone is always worried about reaching our for help and advice but once they do it’s often the case that it’s not as bad as the thought it was going to be.

Tell him to reach out to Kevin or I for some advice if he wants. We can reassure him.
