Bank Account after discharge

I need some advice. I completed my trust deed last July and was discharged in December. My partner has just bought a flat for us and we need to set up a joint account for bills.

He has seen an account with Santander he likes due to the benefits but they were one of my creditors I had a loan with. Would I be able to bank with them? Or would I need to wait a few years? I don't want to apply for an account and be declined leaving a footprint on my credit file especially since like others I'm trying to improve my credit rating again.

Thanks in advance.

Hi glasgow_gal.

Sadly I think the only way you'll find out is by applying.

Are you happy to create a financial connection between each of your credit records?

Thanks TDA.

Would creating a financial connection between our records have a negative impact on my partners credit rating ? I wouldn't want to affect his credit rating due to my poor rating.

It wouldn't affect his credit rating glagow_gal. That's an individual thing.

It would create a connection though.

Some lenders might follow that connection and it might affect their willingness to lend.
