I think all you can do is reason with your bank, or perhaps enlist the support of your trustee to do the same.

Hopefully they'll make a decision you consider to be fair.

It’s something to speak with your Trustee about as they may be able to help although they will want to know how much money you have been paid and what this is for. If for example this is inheritance then the Trustee could consider ingathering the funds for the benefit of creditors.

Also speak with the bank again to clarify if the old account is actually closed. Sometimes the first person you speak with on the phone at the bank might not be the best person and you might need to ask to be put through to the Insolvency / Bankruptcy team.

This happened to me, although it was a DAS I had so not sure if it's different? The bank refunded the person later (although not immediately) after she got in touch with her own bank to inform them of her error. It was showing as a credit on a suspended account.
