Hi

My PTD is just about finished - just waiting for the paperwork to be tied up and I am not aware of any complications.

I got married a month ago and we want to set up a joint bank account to pay bills etc.

Anyway my question is (due to the woman in the bank advising me to get the answer first): Will my wife's credit rating be damaged by setting up a joint bank account with me?

Hello chippieminton,

I cannot see any reason why this would damage your wife's credit rating itself provided that the account was well managed.

Do you have any other joint arrangements such as a mortgage already?

A "link" could appear on your credit files to each other (if there isn't one already) which potential lenders might take an interest in if they chose to.

If you manage your financial affairs seperately there might be scope to file a "notice of disassociation" to deal with this but I'm not sure that this would be appropriate if you have a joint account.

Thanks for this. We don't have a mortgage together no, or anything else done jointly.

I don't think it's going to damage your wife's credit rating chippieminton.

However, we are not credit rating experts, and I would just be slightly concerned about the impact of a joint account in terms of "linking". This might not affect her personal credit rating but could potentially have an impact on a lenders willingness to lend.
