Hi,was hoping to get some advice regarding possible changes that would affect my husband's TD. We have been paying for 2 years now, no payments missed etc. He potentially has the opportunity to work abroad on a single status contract while I remain in the uk with our children, meaning we need to split our lives between two countries, so bills and cost of living at both ends and we would need to factor in the cost of travel etc. Will this be doable if we maintain our monthly payment? The job would pay significantly more so we are expecting to pay more to the TD. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.
Hi Daisy1999 and welcome to the forum.
Your husband's trust deed doesn't prevent him from taking this opportunity.
Provided that it does not reduce his capacity to pay his existing trust deed payment, then it should cause no issues.
A review should take place to assess his disposable income in light of his new salary and costs. As you have identified, the payment is based upon affordability so it's possible that his monthly payment will increase.
Hi, thanks so much for the reply. So the fact that we would need to travel could be included in our expenditure? This role is a great step for his career but we feel the TD may hold him back. He would also need to open a bank account in the new country, would having a TD affect him from getting this approved? Thanks again.
Sorry I also ment to ask could we possibly pay a higher amount to the TD monthly to pay it off sooner or would we be tied for the full term? Thanks.
Hi Daisy1999,
I don't see any issue with the travel being included, it's no different to regular work commuting more locally really. Things like this are always best checked directly with his trustee though.
I don't think the overseas bank account would be a major issue either, though I don't have any particular expertise in this area. In general terms your credit history is a national rather than an international matter.
One thing you might need to check is whether the trust deed would affect his ability to get a work visa (or other similar accreditation) where he would go. I'm not saying that this will be an issue, but it should probably be checked.
Thank you very much for your advice. We will do further research into the work visa etc and hopefully it will all work out.
