Hi - looking for advice. I have completed 48 payments (completed August 1st!) of my Trust Deed and therefore I should now be finished paying. Should I stop the payment?

Also, how long will it take to get my Form 5 through and subsequently be discharged?

Hi Stevod1985. Congratulations on completing your payments! If I were you I think I would contact my trustee and double check that your understanding is correct and that there are no more payments to be made before cancelling the instruction with your bank. Trust Deeds are usually 48 payments but can be longer in some circumstances so best to check with them.

With regards to your form 5 (ie your discharge confirmation), the timescale for this may vary from firm to firm but for most it seems to be around 4-6 weeks from making the last payment, based on what we have heard in the past on this forum.

Hi - thank you so much for your response. I contacted my trustee via email but whilst waiting for a reply, I received a letter from them stating that I had completed the 48 payments and that I should stop my standing order with my bank - absolutely delighted! I have been paying a lot of money into my trust deed for 4 years and to be on the cusp of being completely debt free is actually the best feeling in the world! Not only that, everything I earn will be mine - something I have not experienced in a very long time - long before the trust deed! Thanks

Happy days! Time to start planning what to spend your spare money on (hopefully not all just going straight to your energy company instead...)
